Double jeopardy

En Nepal las mujeres que pierden sus maridos pierden su propia identidad. Son rechazadas y obligadas a abandonar su hogar. En muchos casos, se convierten en víctimas del abuso sexual de sus familiares y en esclavas forzadas a trabajar la tierra sobre la que no tienen derecho alguno. Ser viuda en Nepal no es fácil. Se les suele privar de cualquier participación social, en definitiva, de ejercer sus propios derechos como ciudadanas.

In Nepal, women who lose their husbands, lose their identity. They are shunned by their community and forced to abandon their home. In many cases they end up being victims of sexual abuse perpetrated by relatives or slaves forced to work the land on which they hold no rights over. Being a widow in  Nepal is extremely difficult.
